In its centenary year, and ahead of its international debut at Wine Paris 2026, Valdo Spumanti has introduced its first-ever de-alcoholised sparkling wine: PURØ – Alcohol Free Blanc de Blancs. Crafted exclusively from a selection of Glera, Chardonnay, and Traminer white grapes, the fruit is sourced from Valdo’s own I Magredi estate in the heart of the Grave del Friuli region. The production process involves a classic white vinification followed by de-alcoholisation using vacuum distillation columns. By applying gentle heat at low temperatures ($36$–$37$°C), the winery ensures the product preserves its purity, freshness, structure, and authenticity—notably without the addition of any external aromas.
The product features a “clean label” approach, enhanced by a U-LABEL QR code to meet mandatory ingredient and nutritional transparency requirements.
Tasting Notes & Profile
Appearance: A delicate straw yellow.
Aroma: Notes of green apple, white flowers, and subtle citrus undertones.
Palate: Balanced and enveloping, underpinned by a pleasant acidity that provides lift and freshness.
Best Served: Ideal as an aperitif or as a premium base for alcohol-free mixology.
A Growing Low & No Portfolio
PURØ is part of a broader strategic commitment by Valdo to the Low & No category. This follows the successful launch of their Blanc de Blancs 8% Dry last year, a low-alcohol sparkling wine primarily based on Glera grapes.
“The Low & No alcohol sector represents a new category of bubbles that remains firmly rooted in the world of wine, a far cry from soft drinks or sugary, artificial beverages,” says Pierluigi Bolla, Chairman of Valdo Spumanti.
“It is a new concept of sparkling wine dedicated to modern consumption habits and diverse consumer needs, where quality remains paramount. This is why we chose to omit added aromas, working solely with high-quality wine bases and processes that respect the raw material. This vision is a first step in a larger project aiming to bring the ethics and standards of traditional winemaking into production areas where alcohol is no longer the protagonist.”
